Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: Set on a 118 hectare organic farm, the location is remote and rustic but idyllic in its simplicity. We loved swimming in the pond, wandering the grounds including petting the dogs and donkeys, and exploring the different garden plots. That the hotel endeavors to only serve and utilize local and/or natural products, and minimize waste was a plus. Cucumbi was ideal for what we were looking for to switch off for several days, and despite the hiccups described below we did manage to achieve Zen 🙏🏻
Negative: To be blunt, staff communication sucked. They were either non-responsive, forgetful, or you had to ask multiple times to get something; for example, we got in touch two weeks prior to our stay with a couple questions and despite multiple messages over email, booking and finally WhatsApp, it was only after repeatedly calling that we got any kind of response. Their disorganization and lack of awareness was frustrating, to say the least. It should also be said that the property is quite child friendly, so while on the one hand you have a very zen, simple and rustic property, on the other hand it was punctured with intermittent screams or crying with toddlers running around. Bring earplugs. Lunches and dinners were very much hit or miss and well overpriced. Finally, we were quite disappointed that although a ceramics studio was advertised with the note visitors can book it for use, we were only told upon arrival that it requires a minimum of six people.
