Positive: Location. This is a big part of why we picked the property. Also an easy Uber drop-off nearby. Close to restaurants. Washing machine in the unit, with drying rack. Owner / Management team helpful and responsive.
Negative: The photos were accurate in content but must have been shot with a wide angle lens and professional lighting. The description details are provided, so read carefully. Low ceilings. Dark. Doll-house small. Lots of stairs (59) of varying depths (which we expected and were thankful we had backpacks). 24”x24” shower. Sensitive toilet (common in Europe) so trashcan for the toilet paper takes up already tight bathroom space. It was almost comical because we would each open the door and almost fall out of the bathroom as it was so small and at a slight downhill angle. We are relatively fit, height-weight proportionate, middle-age backpackers and frequent travelers. And usually good sports when a place doesn’t quite meet our every expectation. We had hoped to be able to cook here and experience market shopping and Lisbon life. We weren’t horrified or anything but honestly found the kitchen a bit rough. Unlike the rest of the space the kitchen felt less than clean. It’s fine for sandwiches and simpler meals. We chose to avoid using the kitchen all together. All that said, the bed was solid. Very comfortable. The communication was good, timely and helpful. Location excellent. More on the border of Chiado and Barrio Alto. The Uber Driver told us the square we were on (Largo Trindade) is their drop off point for Barrio Alto. So that is a plus because the building is practically right on that square. I think with an overhaul on the kitchen, much better lighting, some fun, old-time artwork to really play up on the whole attic theme and then marketing to the right audience (perhaps as a hostel alternative?) and this could be a great space. It certainly has potential for the right guests.
Summary: Tiny space for small, short adults. Good location to access Barrio Alto.
