Tropical Breeze Villa is the largest unit at Battery Hill--an elegantly cozy 9-unit condominium complex on the crest of a hill overlooking Grande Bay and quaint Cruz Bay village. This comfortable unit boasts a spacious living area, a fully equipped kitchen, modern island decor, a queen sized master bedroom and a pair of beds (one queen and one twin *queen added since photos*) in the large loft bedroom. Visually, the exposed beams and rustic cedar plank cathedral ceiling invoke images of a Vermont barn. Five ceiling fans spaced throughout the unit supplement the nearly constant natural breezes. For added comfort, there are three split unit air conditioners spaced throughout the unit.
Tropical Breeze stands out as one of only three 2 bedroom/2 bath rental units at Battery Hill. In 2022, the complex upgraded to a UV water filtration system so water in the unit is drinkable.
Tropical Breeze is on the top (3rd) floor of the outermost building; as a result, it offers incredible unobstructed views of the Caribbean Sea and inland St. John. On clear days, St. Croix--nearly 40 miles distant--may be seen on the southern horizon.
Battery Hill’s pool deck is a great spot to enjoy cocktails while grilling a burger or some fresh local fish on the nearby Weber grill. After a refreshing dip in the pool, you’ll find the Tropical Breeze balcony deck an irresistible spot for alfresco dining, capturing a sunset, watching the moon rise, or gazing at the stars. The views are magical.
As a guest at Battery Hill, you will enjoy luxurious 'home away from home' accommodations and conveniences such as cable TV and WiFi service, as well as a Chromecast for you to cast all of your favorite content. Our on-island manager will assure that your arrival/check-in goes smoothly and is always available for your special needs.
Locating a parking spot in downtown Cruz Bay can present the ultimate challenge. Our near-town location means that when you feel it’s time to grab a beer or tropical drink at one of the popular pubs, or enjoy a sumptuous meal at one of Cruz Bay’s many world-class restaurants, or, perhaps, just do a bit of shopping, it will all be within easy walking distance. At Battery Hill, renting a vehicle is an option, not a necessity. If you do choose to rent a vehicle, rest assured that Battery Hill, unlike some other properties, offers ample off-street parking.
And, as you evaluate the various accommodations available to you, keep in mind that, as described earlier, we "overlook" Grande Bay. We are literally next door neighbors, but situated higher on the hillside. The Tropical Breeze deck, being about 4 stories above the Grande Bay roof line, offers unobstructed views.
The nearest beach, at Frank Bay, can be reached in five minutes by foot. Taxi service to the National Park’s spectacular north shore beaches is both readily available and inexpensive.

Summary: We had an amazing time in St. John staying at Tropical Breeze. Our previous trip to St. John we had stayed at the Westin, but at Tropical Breeze we loved that we could walk into town to shop or eat without having to fight for parking. The deck and views are amazing, and plenty of space and amenities such as beach chairs and coolers for use during the trip. Our two teen girls had plenty of space to themselves which they appreciated. We didn't cook a lot of meals, but the kitchen was well stocked for what we needed. Having the AC was very nice as well, between the 3 units it would cool down pretty quickly. The pool is on the small side, but every time we used it we had it to ourselves which was fun. The property manager Tammy was on top of things and very responsive and helpful. You don't have to rent a car here, but we did and there was always plenty of parking at Batter Hill. Of course no place is 100% perfect. You can't just swap beach towels like a hotel, but there is a laundry on site so we just washed the towels if needed. Minor nitpicks like a couple of blinds that could use fixing, and as others have mentioned, the walk back up the hill after visiting Cruz Bay is a bit of a workout. But overall we had a fantastic stay and would not hesitate to stay at Tropical Breeze again!
