Located on a beautiful channel of the Withlacoochee River, this former fish camp has been remodeled into a cozy river cottage featuring 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath. With its fully stocked kitchen, sun porch to enjoy your morning coffee, and the full size metal-roofed covered porch to listen to the raindrops..... you have everything you need to relax with todays' comforts.
The Oaks at Withlacoochee is the perfect spot to chill out, fish or boat right from the backyard. Located just a short boat ride away from a nature lovers dream is Half Moon Wildlife Management area! Within our river seawall, there is a boat launch perfect for small flat bottom boats, kayaks and canoes. Also, we have stairs down to the waters edge should you prefer to enter from steps. The property is surrounded by majestic trees to provide shade during those hot days and a fire pit for those cool 'winter' evenings.
Downtown Inverness is the historic district and has a wonderful park, the trailhead for the Withlacoochee River Trail for walking, biking and birdwatching. Explore the shops, restaurants and other fun activities in historic Inverness. The Depot area features a farmers market, car shows, movies and other entertainment at the venue. Catch morning breakfast on the Courthouse Square at The Hen House, where you'll find the locals sharing a good cup of coffee.
Back at The Oaks, we provide you with multiple reasons just to hang around and enjoy the nature. You can find cornhole boards & bags, inside games such as puzzles, books and various boardgames, & some fishing gear. At night enjoy the campfire roasting marsh-mellows and making smores, or having a few adult drinks around the campfire, looking at starry nights and relaxing. Outside you'll find a outside sink to clean your fresh catch and a gas/propane grill to cook it on! You'll find owls, hawks, fish, turtles and the occasional alligators in the Withlacoochee River-shed area keeping you company.
The Sumter County boat launch is just 1 mile from our river neighborhood, Airboat rides are a great way to see the majestic Withlacoochee River and there are many in the area. Visit friends in The Villages, located just a short 18 miles away. Disney and Tampa are both an hour away via the interstate. The City of Inverness is a quick 10-minute drive into town where you can find groceries, shopping, antiques, and thrift stores.
