Conveniently located in sunny mid-valley, River House is the former retreat and home of eight-time American Olympic medalist, Charles Daniels (March 24, 1885 – August 9, 1973). Daniels became the first American to win an Olympic medal, gaining gold medals in 1904 in both the 220- and 440-yard freestyle races. At the 1908 Olympics in London, he won gold in the 100-meter freestyle. Daniels was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1965.
