Visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery and the World of Beatrix Potter, or there are plenty of fabulous walks in the area including the ascent up to Latterbarrow, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Lake District. Crookthwaite Cottage offers comfortable holiday accommodation with all the essential amenities needed to enjoy this rustic lakeland cottage. Hawkshead is approximately one mile away, with its grocery shops, beautiful gift shops, tea rooms and a great choice of pubs. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile. Delightfully placed on a small private country lane, nestled on the lower slopes of Latterbarrow and having beautiful views north and south up and down the valley, this lovely stone-built three bedroom cottage has that elusive welcoming feel that just cannot be created over night. The accommodation has been thoughtfully improved over the years and includes a hall, open plan sitting /dining room, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is a charming kitchen, utility/rear porch and a bedroom with an en-suite shower on the ground floor. There are two further bedrooms, one double one single, a large bathroom and a laundry/storage room on the first floor. All of the rooms enjoy super views over the adjoining fields to the surrounding Lakeland fells and woodland. There is also a pleasant garden in which to sit and enjoy the tranquillity of this lovely location.Colthouse is a small Hamlet on the outskirts of the picturesque and historic village of Hawkshead, beautifully situated between the lakes of Windermere and Coniston Water at the northern tip of the Grizedale Forest.There are numerous walks accessible literally from the doorstep of Crookthwaite Cottage including to Latterbarrow and the Tarns at Claife Height to the east, Esthwaite Water to the south, Grizedale Forest and Tarn Hows to the West and the Furness Fells in the North.
Directions From Ambleside take the A593 heading towards Coniston, turning left just after passing through Clappersgate, signposted Hawkshead on the B5286. Turn left again after approximately 1 mile signposted High Wray. Pass Wray Castle (National Trust owned) and on through the small village of High Wray continuing straight on where signposted towards Hawkshead. After a further half mile pass Tock How Farm and just after passing Loanthwaite Lane on your right you will see a private gated lane on your left (the first turning on your left since leaving High Wray) which leads up to Crookthwaite Cottage. There is off street car parking in front of the right hand garage here.
