Summary
Situated on Pigeon Hill Road in Steuben, with views of Pigeon Hill Bay and Bois Bubert Island, this lovely cottage has three bedrooms with king, queen, and twin beds, a tiled newer bathroom and new 1/2 bath. Good WIFI access. Food shopping and some restaurants nearby.
6-day minimum rental in the summer and early fall, (check-in at 4:00pm, check-out by 10:00am). Please note that while we have checked that it is not suitable for small children, this is because the twin bedroom is off of the kitchen, and a distance from the master bedroom. It really depends on how the parents feel about their child being responsible, and of course, all children are different, so only the parent can judge.
The Area
Situated on the Petit Manan peninsula, and within walking distance to the Petit Manan Wildlife Area and hiking on Pigeon Hill, the cottage is part of a small and peaceful community of summer and year-round homes. We love the openness of the area as not many of these cottages are surrounded by forest (which tends to be more typical in northern Maine). This gives us the advantage of knowing our neighbors, and giving and receiving a wave and a smile!
Down East Maine offers a tidbit of charm different from other areas on the coast. Abundant wildlife, eagles, heron, seal and puffin – wild blueberries in August and September -- amazing ocean hiking trails – island to island kayaking – antiquing -- and of course, those famous lobster rolls! All rolled into one very nice package of easy access and renowned Maine hospitality.
With world-famous Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain just an hour+ away, Pigeon Hill is the perfect jumping off point for all kinds of outdoor activities, whether they are exploring the back roads by car or foot, or the ocean by kayak. The hiking and biking trails at Schoodic Point, in Acadia National Park on the Mainland, are 18 miles away. In Jonesport there is hiking on Great Wass Island, and in Cutler, the Bold Coast trail. We're just down the road from trails in the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge; and our own Pigeon Hill, which at 317' is an easy-to-summit hill that has amazing panoramic views of the islands, including Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island (pronounced by locals as “Dessert"!). And if you like to stargaze, at night the sky is totally black and those stars just pop -- Bring your spotter or binoculars! But of course, you don't have to be active on your vacation -- just sitting on the deck enjoying the peace and quiet, watching for the eagles, or perhaps merely enjoying a novel, goes a long way to emptying the mind of clutter and replenishing the spirit.
What We Don't Have: Malls, Fast Food Restaurants, TrafficJams. You can find those in Ellsworth, our nearest “big town". However, we do have a small supermarket about 10 minutes away in Milbridge, and there are some nice restaurants within 8 miles, so you don't have to drive to Ellsworth unless you're going through withdrawal for the hustle & bustle!

Jackie's place is wonderful. It's really hard to put into words what a soothing respite this is from the hustle and bustle of city life. I thoroughly enjoyed the space which is as classic as cottages go. Beautifully set up. Plenty of sunlight. A light breeze from the sea. Perfect for munching on an outdoor patio lunch. Chipman's Wharf was a great local suggestion which provided me all the fresh seafood I needed to make my Maine stay complete. I hope to have the chance to go back one day. It was an absolute privilege to experience.

We had such a lovely and relaxing stay at the cottage. It is in such a beautiful and peaceful location. I especially loved the view of the water from the deck-- a perfect place to sit with a good book each morning. The cottage was quaint, clean, and beautifully appointed with all the amenities of home (only thing we didn't have was a dishwasher, though we didn't miss it!) There were nearby opportunities for hiking and biking, and the Pigeon Hill trail offered especially breathtaking views of the area. It was also helpful that there was a grocery store and restaurants about 10 minutes away. Only about a 30 minute drive away was Winter Hill and Schoodic Peninsula (Acadia) with such magnificent views as well. Also relatively close (only about an hour away) from MDI/Bar Harbor/Acadia which made for a perfect day trip. All in all, would highly recommend Jackie's cottage and hope to return in the future!

We loved staying in Jackie and Steve’s house and had a wonderful time on Petit Manan Peninsula. We hiked, cycled, swam, explored at low tide and relaxed outside surrounded by stunning views. The house is filled with great natural light. I particularly enjoyed cooking in the kitchen with windows on three sides!

This is a truly amazing space. The cottage was gorgeous yet homey, and full of all the amenities that we needed during our stay. The views and location were perfect for a peaceful getaway. We were sad to leave it at the end of our time there, and wished we had booked another week.

Modern beach ambiance! This cottage is so adorable and functional, you won't want to leave. New bathroom is outstanding. This quiet area offers spendid views of the ocean. There is a gentle breeze through many windows. Fully functioning large kitchen. A quaint living room with sliding glass doors leading out to a large deck. The Adirondack chairs are a big plus! You are removed from crowds in this 3-bedroom cottage, but also within an hour of touristy activities. Lots of hiking near Steuben. Have fun!

Cozy, relaxing and charming.
We were beyond pleased with our stay. The house is clean, bright and comfortable. The location was great, we loved being off the beaten path and away from the tourist areas. We spent our days at Acadia NP and Schoodic which were both within a reasonable driving distance and the evenings on the deck looking at the water and enjoying the peace and quiet. The beautiful hiking trails right there within walking distance were a huge plus. It was really nice to meet the friendly neighbors who could not have been more gracious. Jackie and Steve’s place truly is a great location to rest, relax and recharge. We hope to visit again!

Our family stayed for 5 nights at the property (mid-July) and used the location to spend time hiking, visiting and exploring the surrounding area and Acadia National Park. The property was well-cared for and clean. It had a great kitchen and dining room for a family of 5, and space for us to read, watch TV and play board games when we had a bit of rain. We hiked trails in the areas that were easily accessible (a very short drive or 10 minute walk from the property), picked wild blueberries in the Wildlife Refuge, and ordered lobsters and fish from Dorr Lobster, just up the road one evening. A couple days we drove to Acadia National Park (Bar Harbor is about 50-60 minutes away) and spent time walking around Bar Harbor, whale watching, hiking and driving the park. It's a bit of a longer drive than I'd prefer, but the price for the property is very good and it removes you from all the congestion and touristy feel around Bar Harbor and the entrance to the island. This property gives you an authentic Maine experience, and it's wonderfully peaceful. Great neighbors as well. Thanks Jackie and Steve!
