Lossiemouth House | 3 mins to gorgeous quiet beach, seaviews, large rooms with plenty of space

8 Bedroom House with Ocean View, Internet and Kitchen

Able to sleep 16 comfortably in 7 bedrooms or 18 with the sofa bed in the games room, if requested. This large 7/8 bedroom traditional stone house, in an extremely quiet residential road, is the ideal place to relax, unwind and enjoy the tranquil surrounding scenery in which the Lodge is located. The property enjoys an extremely sunny aspect with a pretty walled surround garden with plenty of private seating areas and a veranda at the back from which you have a lovely view across the field towards the sea. The rear of the property borders a large enclosed green space which is not much used except by those walking dogs across to the beach. ThIs large field, adjacent to the Lodge, is an ideal spot for family games of football, rounders etc. It is also a large safe place for children to play, being clearly visible from all rear rooms of the property as well as the back garden and is enclosed by other properties' rear walls. In the far corner of the field are 2 good quality, locked, tarmac tennis courts which can be easily booked online.
Lossiemouth's beautiful, and largely deserted, sandy West Beach is 3 minutes walk from the house from where you can enjoy the walk up to the lighthouse or, choosing your tide times correctly, you could walk all the way west towards Findhorn!
The aspect of the Lodge means that all year round sunsets are enjoyed from various rooms in the house, although no more so than in the summer when the sun sets around 11.30pm over the sea, clearly visible from the rear of the property.
All beds are made up with soft thread Egyptian cotton linen and each room gives ample space for relaxing. There are 3 large comfy areas for sitting downstairs which gives everyone a chance to find a space to enjoy. The games room on the top floor also has a comfy sofa bed which could provide additional sleeping space for 2 if requested prior to arrival.
Moray Golf Club, with 2 celebrated links course, is 3 mins (if that!) walk from the house down towards the sea, where visitors can arrange to play all year round. There are many other golf courses within easy reach of the Lodge by car including Nairn and Castle Stuart. 15 minutes walk in the opposite direction takes you over the brow of the hill to the long East Beach whose high dunes back on to the mouth of the Lossie river and the surrounding nature reserve and woods. This in turn leads to several delightful forest walks all within 15 minutes walk of the Lodge.
Good local produce can be enjoyed at 2 separate restaurants both 2 mins walk from the property, both of which offer fabulous sea views from their dining areas and good quality menus. Further celebrated restaurants cater for a range of tastes within 10 mins walk of The Lodge towards, and in the centre of Lossie.
The whole of the Moray coastline boasts scores of stunning beaches with many beautiful coastal walks around coves, on headlands and along miles of sandy bays. Local wildlife is abundant and dolphins can be frequently spotted along with the very occasional orca, as a pod apparently frequents the Moray Firth. The forest walks in the local area are also fabulous and mountain biking along the forest tracks is most enjoyable. Bikes can be hired locally from Outfit Moray down on the seafront in Lossie. Further afield there are many celebrated plotted trails in Glenlivet and the Cairngorms both of which are within an hour's drive from the front door.
The beautiful river Spey is 20 minutes by car and although salmon fishing is no longer permitted, the Spey provides further beautiful walking territory. Salmon fishing itself can be enjoyed in local fishery reserves of which there are several within 30 mins of Lossie.
Kayaking and canoeing can be down on the local river Lossie. Again Outfit Moray and other local organisations offer hire of equipment.
The area is famous for its whiskey, with surrounding Moray countryside being home to many of the leading whiskey distilleries. Tours and taster sessions are easily arranged by contacting breweries directly. The historic county capital Elgin is 5 miles away and besides a beautiful river walk, accessible for wheelchairs, along the rIver Lossie, it also holds several historical attractions such as the ancient cathedral ruins and an interesting motor museum. Elgin is also home to all good shops you would expect in a thriving Scottish market town.
As mentioned, the Cairngorms are within an hour providing beautiful mountain walks, while the Victorian resort of Grantown on Spey, beautiful Loch Morlich and the lesser known, but stunning, Loch-an-Eilein are all within easy reach. Aviemore is 1 hour 15 minutes away and provides skiing in the winter and a provincial cosmopolitan buzz with plenty going on all year round.
A day round trip could take you west to Inverness and then up to the very north coast which is a morning's drive away through stunning scenery. Alternatively the west coast is easily visited in a round day trip drive.

Summary: A group of eleven friends from Australia who have known each other for fifty years met in Lynwood Lodge, Lossimouth for three days and had the most wonderful time. We walked in the Cairngorms, visited Peterhead and Culloden and Cawdor Castle. We had a wonderful dinner at Catch 79 and a comfortable, convivial and commodious time in The Lodge. We are all happy to recommend spending some time here. Thank you to our Hosts. Michael
